Sass and Bides ‘Organic Bling’

Over at the Herald Sun Sass and Bide offer a sneak peek into their forthcoming collection due to hit the New York runway at Olympus fashion week on September the 9th.
The duo appeared a little jaded, and from the selection of garments they presented I couldn’t help but notice some strong references to previous designers collections notably the ‘grecian’ look presented by Alexander McQueen during s/s 06.
Wilst the girls acknowledge a change in direction from their usual aesthetic as they evolve from their signature style of blinged up draped jersey the new collection is still very much sexy Sass and Bide. The pair say they are showing a stronger, more graphic and monochromatic look this season which is probably more suited to their New York clientele. They dubbed this new aesthetic as ‘organic bling’.
It’s been reported that last season many American buyers were cautious of stocking the label after being burned by large quantities of unsold stock. The pressure is now on and the girls will really have to up the ante to regain buyers confidence. I’ll be watching with interest, their success or failure will surely have an impact on the reputation and profile of other Australian designers hoping to make it in the big apple.

Interesting post Lol - with last season being only moderately successful in for S&B in the US the girls have intelligently targetted the market for some sure-fire sales and popular lines. Clever play. They’ll be successful this time, so when next season rolls around they can improvise and try some new ideas…

So, what came first, the chicken or the egg?
Even tho some o f their pieces mite be similar to McQueen - I couldnt help but notice that the McQueen ss06 had strong references to Sass&Bides earlier work…
